The period of availability for several grants awarded under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) is ending September 30, 2022. This includes the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Funds (GEER I) and the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER I). These funds cannot carry over beyond the end of September, and any unclaimed funds will be returned to the federal Government. In order to maximize these resources, the Department plans to reallocate funds for several of these grants to organizations who can use additional funds for qualifying expenses before the September 30, 2022 deadline.
